Co-Editor-in-chief of The Axe
Maggie has always wanted to pursue journalism as a career, so when she started writing for The Axe, it was a perfect fit. Since then, Maggie has written countless stories, where she has enjoyed getting to learn about new topics. She loves that her work gets an outlet to be published, and she has loved her experience being in the newspaper.
One of her favorite parts of working at the newspaper: “The people, there have been a lot of different groups of people over my years in the newspaper; we have always had fun and it has been a good community to be a part of inside the school” Maggie said.
In the fall, Maggie will be attending George Washington University. Maggie is excited to continue her journalism career in Washington D.C. and experience living in a big city. “Having lived in Eugene my whole life, it’s exciting to go explore an entirely new place. I’ve heard great things about D.C. and I’m excited to see more,” Maggie remarked. She is excited for the opportunities that will come with the many internships that D.C has to offer, including those within the white house and at major news programs. Maggie hopes for a career in investigative political journalism, whether that be broadcast or print. Being in our nation’s capital will be the perfect fit for her focus in politics.
Outside of school, Maggie loves to spend time with her friends and play tennis. This year she was a member of the South Girl’s Tennis team. “I enjoyed learning to play tennis with the people on the team. It was just so fun to go to practice and see all of them, and to be together,” said Maggie.
As the newspaper’s Co-Editor-in-Chief, Maggie has made a huge impact on how the Axe functions, keeping everything running smoothly and organized. Maggie has been a great leader, and is a very big part of South’s newspaper’s community and productivity.
