Lights, camera, action! Summer is about to begin and the world becomes your runway. The weather warming up makes way for a whole new array of fashion trends. We lose our frumpy winter scarves and sweaters, exchanging them for t-shirts and flipflops. Fashion is cyclical and passed down through generations. Trends old and new are coming around this summer. Last year was all about “Brat summer,” but this year we are traveling through time as we step into “Summer 2016”

Big sunglasses, bright bold colors, glitter, and all things fun are what define this new summer era. 2016 was all about the vibes, and everyone nationwide in 2026 is trying their hardest to match it. For example, at Coachella, one of the world’s largest annual music festivals, many influencers were seen wearing outfits featuring classic 2016 elements. Even our food is being influenced. Places like Starbucks are teasing special throwback drinks to get everyone in the summer mood.

As for clothing, there is a lot to choose from: high-rise, low-rise, maxi, mini – but what’s popping up this summer more than ever are cropped shirts. Cropped shirts have been a staple for decades, but this summer the target demographic has changed. Guys of all ages are beginning to wear cropped shirts. This style is influenced by the late 70s and has picked up in recent months. Experts predict this trend will only rise over summer. Of course crop tops are also a good choice for girls! Whether it’s paired in a 2 piece set or a cute tube top. Cropped shirts are a great way to stay cool and look cool at the same time!

However shirts, skirts, and sandals alike, are nothing without a signature summer pattern. They have come and gone over the years and often became the signature of their era. We’ve seen everything from galaxy to polka dots, but this summer three key patterns come to mind:plaid, stripes, and chevron. Shorts and button-ups have already started appearing with a classic colorful plaid pattern. The multi-color pop gives every outfit a stylish twist. Stripes are next on the list, fun, fresh and applicable across all aesthetics. Versatility is this pattern’s strong suit, mixing and matching colors and sizes makes for a unique whimsical look. Whereas small dainty stripes can be seen as more professional. Chevron, a distant relative to stripes, is making a return this year as well. The classic zig-zag was first featured in the 2010s and is likely to come back due to this summer’s 2016 nature. Colors such as coral, teal, light pink, and light blue are predicted to be paired with chevron this summer.

There are so many more trends and styles likely to pop up in summer. Play around with platform flip flops, maxi and midi skirts, summer dresses, and layered clothes.Thrifting and repurposing clothing is also always a good way to express yourself while saving the planet. In all, summer is about self expression. It’s a time to experiment with new trends, patterns and colors to find your personal style or aesthetic!
