On Wednesday, Apr. 1, local high schools South Eugene and Sheldon announced that the schools’ football teams would swap schools for one year to counteract inequity in Eugene high school football programs.

According to the South Eugene athletics department, all coaches and players will be swapped in hopes that South can get a few wins, boosting the school spirit and morale, as well as getting eyes on South from universities around the country. The deal was drafted on Mar. 25 and finalized Mar. 30.

Unfortunately, the plan seems to have backfired. In a preliminary scrimmage between the two new teams, the Sheldon (formerly South) team smashed the South (formerly Sheldon) team, winning 55-6 and destroying all hopes of ever balancing the outcomes. South and Sheldon coaches decided to return to their original team rosters and to never make the swap ever again due to “logistical issues.”
