If you’re thinking 2023’s “Barbenheimer” might be hard to beat, you’re probably right. But that doesn’t mean that 2024 doesn’t have a pretty good lineup as far as new movies and shows. Here are a few brief summaries of some new segments in movie and TV series–plus a couple of new ones– releasing this spring and summer.

Movies

  1. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire – to be released in theaters March 29 –is the sequel to the 2021 spin-off of the 1984 classic, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Starring Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon, Frozen Empire is set to continue the story that began in Afterlife, where Egon Spengler’s family discovers their relation to him and becomes a part of something bigger than they could’ve imagined.
  2. Biographical drama Back to Black, coming out May 17, is set to portray the life and music of English R&B star Amy Winehouse. 27-year-old actress Marisa Abela has been cast to play Winehouse and showcase the singer’s journey from adolescence to adulthood, her relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil, and the eventual production of the award-winning 2006 album Back to Black.
  3. Deadpool and Wolverine (Deadpool 3) continues the story of mercenary-turned experiment Wade Wilson, played by Ryan Reynolds. The movie is releasing July 26th and has been a highly anticipated addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Filming and production was stalled due to the SAG-AFTRA Strike, but it fortunately picked up again in time for a 2024 release. Deadpool and Wolverine is reportedly going to make MCU history with the two collaborating in one movie.

Shows

  1. Grey’s Anatomy and one of its two spin-offs, Station 19, return for their 20th and seventh season on March 14th. Both medical dramas are most well known for their unforgettable cast, most notably Ellen Pompeo, who merges between the two shows. The season premieres will be available on ABC, with Station 19’s season 7 being the final.
  2. Fallout is a new, 8-episode TV series that will be released on Apr. 12 through Amazon Prime- however, it’s not totally new, seeing as it’s based off of the roleplaying videogame of the same name. The show will follow Yellowjackets star Ella Purnell as lead actor as she ventures through a post-apocalyptic, war-ridden world.
  3. Young Sheldon makes a return for its final season on CBS, which started premiering Feb. 15. This spin-off/prequel of sitcom The Big Bang Theory aired in 2017 and has since given a look into Sheldon’s childhood and family. Season 7 is set to have an hour-long series finale, releasing May 16.
