Opening Feb. 26, South Eugene Theater (SET) presents their second student-directed play this year, Antigone by Sophocles. Out of six shows each year, three of them are student-directed. Antigone was directed by Bea Giustina, who also serves as head of wardrobe.
Antigone is a tragic Greek play that explores themes of loyalty, justice, and civil disobedience. The story follows Antigone as she ignores King Creon’s wishes to bury her brother according to divine law, risking her life for her moral duty and her family’s well-being. The cast of South students in this production have been hard at work making Antigone come to life. SET strives to create both an encouraging and engaging learning environment where students can experiment and grow as actors and actresses in a judgment free space. If you didn’t see Antigone at last night’s opening, catch it tonight or tomorrow, or next week March 5, 6, and 7 at 7 p.m.. Matinee showings will also be presented on Mar. 1 and 8 at 2 p.m. Come watch this bold, brave, and astonishing play before it’s over, and support the hard work of South students. Tickets are $8 for students and $12 general admission (online or at the door).
