One of the best ways to embody the spirit of Halloween is to turn down the lights, grab a bowl of candy, cozy up with a blanket and a friend, and flip on some scary movies. Organized from least to most scary, here are some options for your next October movie marathon!

“Hocus Pocus” – This animated movie tells the story of a teenager named Max Dennison, who accidentally frees a coven of evil witches. He must figure out how to use their own spells to stop them from wreaking havoc forever.

“Death Becomes Her” – This story revolves around the rivalry between two women attempting to win the same man’s love and remain the most youthful by taking an immortality potion. They eventually learn that immortality has a price beyond just the beauty they desired.

“Beetlejuice” – In this spooky yet comedic film, two ghosts attract the attention of a mischievous spirit, Beetlejuice, when they attempt to ward away a family trying to move into their old home.

“The Babysitter” – This movie is about a 12-year-old boy named Cole, who stays up late past his bedtime one night. He goes on to discover that his stunning teenage babysitter is actually part of a human-sacrificing satanic cult, and let’s just say he was not supposed to find that out.

“Coraline” – This classic follows a young girl who discovers a secret door to an enticing alternate world, only to discover disturbing things lurking beneath the glistening surface.

“A Quiet Place” – If a suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat thriller is your style, then “A Quiet Place” is for you. The story follows a family trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by monsters where making even the slightest sound can become their downfall.

“The Black Phone” – This supernatural horror movie is about a 13-year-old boy trapped in a serial killer’s basement. Terrified, he picks up a disconnected black phone on the wall and discovers he can communicate with the killer’s past victims.

“It” – This film is about seven young kids enjoying their summer in Derry, Maine, until they begin to be prayed upon by a terrifying shapeshifting clown named Pennywise.

“Silence of the Lambs” – The most terrifying of the bunch, this movie follows a young woman, a top student of the FBI, who is put on the case to help catch a serial killer who skins his victims. Her task is to figure out how to receive the help of incarcerated, manipulative cannibal and killer Hannibal Lecter, who may have insight on the case.
