To the readers of The Axe:

Thank you for your support and engagement this past year. All of our reporters and editors have worked so hard to publish the best newspapers they could—and they have outdone themselves every time. We are so incredibly proud of the work they do and are very grateful to have the opportunity to publish with them.

The wonderful Axe staff makes our lives easy: we walk around class, assigning stories (they’re always very eager to conquer whatever challenges are thrown at them) and asking what snacks we should bring to deadline nights (if you’re curious, goldfish appear to be pretty popular). We might provide a fractured skeleton of the paper, but they provide everything else: the flesh, the skin, the muscles, the joints. Without our wonderful team our paper would not exist. Thank you, reporters, for exceeding our expectations at every opportunity.

The staff’s enthusiasm and drive to succeed has given us the peace of mind that the newspaper will be in good hands next year. Headed by Editors-in-Chief Oscar Guillemin and Maggie McMillen and Chief of Design Kade Young, we hold no doubt that The Axe will uphold – and even surpass – the standard of quality that our incredible staff has set this year. Oscar, Maggie, and Kade will be supported by an immensely robust team of editors, and it is our utmost conviction that such a team will be profoundly successful. Congratulations, editors, on taking part in an extraordinary team, and we are so excited to see what you will accomplish in the year to come.

As long as I can remember, writing has consumed practically every part of my life — and high school has been no exception.

In eighth grade, I anxiously awaited every new issue of The Axe, and freshman year, after taking Bobbie’s journalism class, I couldn’t wait to join the newspaper staff. I never imagined the many different things I would do for newspaper however, and the last three years of reporting, editing, layouts, and interviewing what feels like half of this school have been more than I imagined high school newspaper could be.

Newspaper is such a fantastic community, and it’s been such an amazing experience to work with such talented and thoughtful writers. I’ve learned so much from everyone, and I’ve also made such incredible and what I know will be long-lasting friendships.
Thank you so much to everyone who has read The Axe over the last few years, or has at least done the crosswords. While I’m definitely going to miss this incredible community I’ve been a part of, I’m so excited to see what next year’s staff will do, and I know that the paper is in good hands.
