Red Cross
Are you interested in educating your community about medical diseases? Would you be interested in helping out with blood drives? Consider joining the Red Cross Club! They meet every Thursday during lunch in Room 202. The Red Cross Club is a great club to join for kids new to South’s student groups. If you’re interested in joining, consider sending a DM to their Instagram @sehsredcross, talking with one of the club members, or just showing up to a meeting. In addition, they have a blood drive on November 21. It will be held in the Small Gym, and all students age 16 or older can donate, as long as they meet the eligibility requirements. For more information, look for posters around the school, and check out the club’s Instagram page.

BIPOC

Connection with community and culture plays an important role in high school. Being able to talk about shared ideas, questions, and concerns with others is key. BIPOC is a great affinity group to join if you are a student who wants to get more involved with your community and culture. BIPOC was created in response to a social media post made in 2021 targeting BIPOC students. Standing for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour, BIPOC is a club for students of the BIPOC community to get together, have important conversations, and to just get to know each other. Right now, the group is mostly focused on building connections. Leadership meetings happen twice a month, and anyone is welcome to come; it is not an elected position. Group meetings are held once a month in Room 25, and go from the last 30 minutes of second period and run through lunch. To find out specific meeting days, make sure to listen to the morning announcements, or follow their Instagram @sehsbipoc.
Letters for Rose
Do you like writing? Are you interested in spreading joy in your community? Consider joining Letters for Rose! Founded during COVID, Letters for Rose writes letters to people in retirement homes to brighten their day. It’s a great way to connect with your community, and it also gets you volunteering hours. You get one volunteer hour for every letter you write. The club meets every Tuesday during lunch in Room 304, and every other Friday after school in the Eugene Public Library.
