Managing Editor of The Axe newspaper and magazine Basil Dracobly was under fire last month for allegedly committing election fraud in the News Media II (Newspaper) class’s election to determine the domain name of the brand new website for The Axe publications. The website includes The Axe newspaper, magazine and information on the Eugenean yearbook and the Axe Report. The candidates for the new domain name included theaxe.org, axemag.org and axenews.org.

While the domain theaxe.org officially won the vote against the second place axemag.org 9-8, Dracobly, who was in charge of counting the class’s votes, changed two write-in votes for axemag.com to votes for his preferred domain, axemag.org. During later investigation it was also discovered by Axe journalist Elliott Hunt that Dracobly also disregarded votes for theaxe.org and falsely reported a win for axemag.org 10-9.

The altered votes.

“I’m so surprised that Basil would do something like this,” said Hunt. “He’s typically a role model and rule-follower.”

After the shocking revelations of last month’s election, justice and democracy prevailed, and the will of the people was honored. Welcome to the amazing website at theaxe.org!
