This year, South’s Ultimate Frisbee teams competed in nationals without breaking stride. The teams overcame obstacles they faced and showed they were there to win.

The open team, which plays in the boys division, finished in 5th place, after losing to Highland, Utah’s Lone Peak High School, who went on to win the national championship title.

The gender diverse team, which plays in the girls division, brought home the National title, in a history-making performance according to Ultiworld.

“A lot of members of our team stepped up to fill new roles as the tournament went on,” said incoming senior and one of the team’s captains, Ollie Bunson.

The gender diverse team proved that no obstacles were too big for them as they tore through the championship, leading the team to beat Lincoln High School in the final with a score of 15-4. They showed that it was more than luck that led them to their 2022 victory and now their 2023 championship win.

“Playing on the team has done a lot for me. It’s made me a lot more confident as a person,” Bunson said.
